What is leisure and lifestyle

The goals of our lifestyle program and services are well summarised by:

"Leisure and Lifestyle's purpose is not to fill time but to make time come alive.

Not to keep people occupied but to keep them refreshed.

Not to offer an escape from life but to provide a discovery of life."

Lifestyle at Fairview Village is informed by the Eden Philosophy. As a registered Eden service, we work with the philosophy and principals aimed at empowering, involving and connecting, eliminating feelings of helplessness, loneliness and boredom among the elderly.

Lifestyle programs are developed in consultation with each resident and based on each individual’s needs, capacities and preferences.

Key features of our Lifestyle Program include:

The program includes individual pursuits and a broad base of activities which provide opportunity for residents to exercise choice and independence and a sense of community and fellowship for all residents, staff, families, volunteers, health care professionals and visitors to Fairview Village.

Fairview Village encourages and embraces outside community involvement and endeavours to maintain resident’s links with the wider community.

The Warragul branch of the R.S.L, local church groups, the Baw Baw Library Service, Senior Citizen Groups and other community organisations all provide regular contact and support to residents.

  • Fairview Village also celebrates Cultural/Theme Days and special celebrations
  • We cater for individual cultural needs and occasions. Special days may include Australia Day, St Patrick’s Day, St Andrews Day, Anzac Day, Mothers/Fathers Day, Cup Day, Resident’s birthdays, special family celebrations and many other such events.

  • Music is an integral part of the lifestyle at Fairview Village. Many entertainers visit to perform concerts and recitals. Fairview has a resident choir the “Twilight Swingers” who practice and perform regularly and have recorded and released their first CD.

  • Outings for residents are offered in two Fairview Village buses, one with a wheelchair hoist. Outings may include picnics, drives and trips to the theatre.

  • Fairview encourages and embraces outside community involvement and endeavours to maintain residents' links with the wider community.

  • The Warragul branch of the R.S.L, local church groups, the Baw Baw library service, Senior Citizen Groups and Baw Baw U3A all provide regular contact and support to residents.

  • Church services and a Men’s Fellowship group are offered weekly in our own beautiful Chapel. Pastoral care is also provided as necessary when requested.

  • The inclusion of children and youth in life at Fairview Village is encouraged and fostered. Weekly visits from a variety of schools provide the opportunity for ongoing friendships to develop and the opportunity for residents to share their lifetime experiences and to maintain their life roles as mentors and teachers.

  • The home is a collage of resident’s tastes, with places to sit and chat, residents’ own art work on display and flowers chosen and arranged by the Residents. There are interest areas that display china, our own Resident-run ‘Shoppe’ which sells a variety of items, some of which are hand-made. There are also a number of outdoor areas throughout the Village which provide a beautiful and peaceful place for residents to enjoy the outdoors.

  • The development of a raised courtyard garden in an easily accessible environment features fruit and vegetables grown with a “permaculture” approach. This has allowed our residents to enjoy a traditional garden experience where they benefit from cooking and eating their home grown produce.

  • Visitors are always welcome at Fairview Village so please feel free to drop in! Students of all ages are always welcomed, including those studying in areas related to aged care.

  •  Perhaps you have skills and interests you might like to share. If so please go to the section on volunteering or contact Fairview Village on 03 5623 2752.
