Housing for Displaced Women
Having a safe and secure place to live is one of the basic human rights, and something that most of us take for granted. Facing homelessness is an incredibly distressing situation yet a harsh reality for far too many within our communities.
Through an initiative driven in partnership by Fairview Village and Quantum Support Services, Fairview Village proudly offers four units that provide a safe haven for older women aged 50 and above, experiencing homelessness.
A joint initiative
The project was heavily supported by members of the community, and the then local member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood, and the Liberal candidate Wayne Farnham.
All in all, its success was due to the 4 major partners working side by side and having a common desire to address homelessness within our community.
Thanks go to representatives of Quantum, Wayss, Fairview Village and Wayne Farnham for driving the initiative and to the 9 major contributors represented by local businesses and philanthropists contributing and lending a hand, as well as over 25 tradies and service providers for building and restoration works that were carried out across the 4 dwellings to transform these units into a haven for women facing homelessness.
There are plans for women living in the refurbished units to become further integrated in village life at their own pace, and are welcome to be as involved as they wish in the Fairview Village community. There are activities like volunteering, socialising, crafting and day trips to enjoy should our guests wish.
